The University of New Mexico School of Law is inviting artists to submit their work for display in its Art Gallery. This opportunity is open to artists regardless of their affiliation with the university. The Gallery, situated in the School of Law Forum, aims to showcase art from various media and encourage diverse artistic expressions.
This year's Spring Gallery theme will focus on the First Amendment. Artists are encouraged to submit works related to freedom of speech, religion, expression, press, petition, and association.
Submissions are restricted to wall-mounted pieces only. Selected works must be ready for display with frames or surfaces that accommodate anti-theft hardware. The maximum dimensions allowed are 47 inches high, 22 feet long, and 6 inches deep. Artists can submit up to five entries via email in PDF or JPEG format by November 11, 2024.
An artist statement explaining how the work relates to the gallery's theme should accompany submissions. The Law School Building Art and Safety Committee will review entries and notify selected artists by November 25th.
The exhibition will run from January 13 to May 19, 2025. Artists need to collect their works after the exhibit concludes as shipping services are not provided by the committee. Delivery of selected pieces is scheduled for December 2-6, 2024, by appointment through Greg Garcia at UNM.
While artwork sales are not facilitated by UNM School of Law, arrangements can be made directly between buyers and artists if desired contact information is displayed alongside their work.
