Sandia National Laboratories is commemorating its 75th anniversary in Albuquerque, an occasion recognized by the city's council through a resolution passed on October 21. The laboratory has been a significant contributor to innovation and national security both locally and nationally for over seven decades.
Terri Cole, President and CEO of the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce, highlighted Sandia's impact, stating, “Sandia National Laboratories is a key member of our community and economy. Their work in national security and technology, as well as the tech-transfer space, is invaluable to our city, state and nation. We’ve been lucky to have their amazing workforce here for 75 years and look forward to many more!”
City Council President Dan Lewis also praised Sandia's contributions: “Sandia National Laboratories has been instrumental in driving technological progress and ensuring our nation’s safety. We are proud to recognize their contributions to our community and their commitment to excellence.”
Founded in 1949, Sandia has played a pivotal role in developing technologies that protect national security. Its research scope now includes renewable energy, cybersecurity, and advanced materials aimed at addressing global challenges.
The laboratory is not only focused on scientific advancements but also supports the Albuquerque community by investing in education programs, fostering partnerships, and creating employment opportunities. This dedication ensures diverse perspectives are valued within scientific pursuits.
Since joining the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce in 1986, Sandia continues to strengthen its ties with the local business community.
