Las Cruces Fire Department to commemorate events of September 11

Las Cruces firefighters will recognize the 23rd anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attack on the United States with the raising of a Garrison Flag and a commemorative bell ringing ceremony.

Beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11, firefighters will hold silent watch at Fire Station 1, located at 201 E. Picacho Ave. Starting at 8:46 a.m., firefighters will ring bells in commemoration of the first attack on the World Trade Center on 9/11.

The bell ringing ceremony will commemorate each significant event from that day:

- At 8:46 a.m., American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower.

- At 9:03 a.m., United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into the South Tower.

- At 9:37 a.m., American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon.

- At 9:59 a.m., collapse of the South Tower.

- At 10:03 a.m., United Flight 93 crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

- At 10:28 a.m., collapse of the North Tower.

Members of the public are welcome to join in the commemoration at Fire Station 1 or from across Picacho Avenue at Albert Johnson Park.
