Las Cruces police will host a Town Hall Meeting on September 12 to discuss the impact of drugs like fentanyl and methamphetamine on the community.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers at Las Cruces City Hall, located at 700 N. Main St., and is expected to last about two hours.

Las Cruces Police Department Chief Jeremy Story will start the event by presenting second-quarter 2024 crime statistics and comparing them to the previous year.

Athena Huckaby, a public health professional specializing in drug policy and harm reduction, and Kevin Renn, Drug Intelligence Officer with the New Mexico High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, will join Story to discuss the increased use of fentanyl and methamphetamine in Las Cruces.

The meeting aims to provide residents with an opportunity to connect with LCPD officials, gain insight into the issue, ask questions, and contribute to ongoing efforts for a safer community.

The Town Hall Meeting will be broadcast live on CLCTV, Comcast Cable channel 20-SD and 928-HD. It will also be live-streamed on the City’s YouTube channel and the Las Cruces Police Department’s Facebook page.
