New Mexico State University (NMSU) will commence the 2024-2025 academic year with a series of events aimed at engaging students, faculty, staff, and the broader community. Each August, NMSU organizes Crimson Kickoff events to help students connect and explore opportunities.
“As students begin moving back to campus on August 18 and all students returning in the subsequent days, I want to encourage all students to take advantage of the many Crimson Kickoff events,” said Renay Scott, vice president of Student Success. “Your belonging on campus is important to me, and Crimson Kickoff is a great opportunity for you to learn about clubs, organizations, activities and opportunities to meet fellow Aggies in the first weeks of the semester.”
Following residence halls opening on Saturday, Aug. 17, various NMSU organizations will host activities for the community. The Aggie women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, and football teams will each have their season openers in August. Classes are set to begin on Wednesday, Aug. 21.
Ala Alhalholy, president of Associated Students of NMSU (ASNMSU), highlighted challenges faced by students whose high school years were affected by COVID-19.
“Welcoming them to campus is more than just opening our doors; it’s about creating a strong sense of community and belonging that will be crucial to their success,” Alhalholy said. “Building this sense of belonging is essential—not only to enhance their college experience but also to ensure their persistence and success in achieving their educational goals. This focus on community is at the heart of our efforts in promoting retention and academic achievement. By prioritizing these connections, we strengthen both our students and the university as a whole.”
