ALBUQUERQUE – The Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency (MRA), in partnership with the Albuquerque Police Department (APD), has launched the Community Connect Downtown Security Camera Grant Program. This initiative offers grants to property owners for purchasing and installing security cameras on commercial buildings in Downtown Albuquerque.

The cameras will be connected to APD’s Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) to enhance crime monitoring and response times. A total of $500,000 is available through the program, with individual grants capped at $20,000 per property. Eligible properties must be within the Downtown Metropolitan Redevelopment Area. Property owners can apply for one grant per property and may submit separate applications for multiple properties, potentially receiving up to three individual awards.

"Connecting more downtown properties to the Real Time Crime Center is one of the ways we’re fighting for a safer downtown," said Mayor Tim Keller. "We are here to support businesses so that they can focus on helping downtown thrive, while we work to make it a safe, welcoming place for everyone."

Applications must be submitted online and will be accepted on a rolling basis until funds are depleted. Priority will be given to applicants who plan to install and connect their security cameras within three months of receiving funding and have a comprehensive safety plan in place.

"The launch of this program marks a significant milestone in our efforts to revitalize Downtown Albuquerque," said MRA Director Terry Brunner. "The collaboration between MRA and APD will help deter criminal activity and encourage economic activity."

Hundreds of cameras across the city are already linked to the RTCC. In addition to live monitoring, APD uses these cameras to review footage for criminal investigations.

"The Real Time Crime Center has proven to be an invaluable resource in our fight against crime," said Chief of Police Harold Medina. "This program will not only deter crime but also strengthen our ability to monitor incidents and ensure a more effective police response."

Applications for the Community Connect Downtown Security Camera Program are now open and can be submitted through https://www.cabq.gov/mra/community-connect-downtown.
