Las Cruces Utilities announces new interns under scholarship program

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Las Cruces Utilities (LCU) is sponsoring students for their education and career in utilities-related technology degrees and operations through an in-house internship opportunity.

Applicants were interviewed at the beginning of June, and three new interns were selected to receive educational scholarships. Interns will complete a designated Technology Program at Dona Ana Community College, as outlined in the LCU Internship Guideline.

Christopher Macias, Edward Acosta, and Cristopher Hernandez will be recognized at a signing ceremony on August 15, 2024, in Council Chambers at City Hall.

The internship program pays for housing, food, books, tuition, and other fees associated with the program and certifications. In addition, the interns have on-the-job training by working up to 20 hours of paid work per week while school is in session and 40 hours of paid work per week during the summer break and holidays. All three have committed to working with LCU after graduation.

The LCU Internship Program was implemented six years ago and employs several graduates of the program. The scholarships ensure the continuation of reliable, safe, and customer-focused services for the City of Las Cruces community.
