New Mexico History Museum to debut new exhibit area

The New Mexico History Museum is set to open a new exhibit area on the museum’s second floor. The inaugural exhibit in the new space, titled "Everyday Odysseys: Relics of Life & Adventure in New Mexico," will run until next summer.

According to an announcement on the museum’s website, the new exhibit area, called the "New Mexico Showcase," includes a rotating selection of objects taken from the museum’s vast collection—ranging from iconic and old favorites to new acquisitions.

The museum will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the exhibit space on Aug. 9, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., according to the announcement.

The premier exhibit spotlights the ordinary objects that have shaped New Mexico’s rich and diverse history. The exhibit will run until July 8, 2025, according to the announcement.

The New Mexico History Museum’s campus comprises three buildings: the Palace of the Governors (1610), Fray Angélico Chávez Library (1907), and Pete V. Domenici Building (2009). They are linked via a large interior lobby and outside courtyard. The main entrance is at 113 Lincoln Avenue, on the west side of the Domenici Building, according to the museum’s website.

New Mexico residents receive free admission on Fridays during the museum’s extended hours, according to the announcement.
