The Public Library of Albuquerque/Bernalillo County has commenced online registration for its 2024 Summer Reading Program. The program, which celebrates reading, learning, and fun, is open to children, adults, and families of all ages. This year's theme is "Adventure Begins at Your Library," with online registration available at www.abqlibrary.org/summerreading.

The free 8-week program aims to encourage reading throughout the summer. This initiative is particularly crucial for students to counteract the "summer slide," a term referring to a student's loss of achievement gains in reading levels during school breaks. Participants of all ages have the opportunity to win attractive prizes.

"Summer reading isn't just a pastime, it’s an important practice for continued learning and personal enrichment for residents of all ages," said Mayor Tim Keller. He added that the Public Library facilitates easy discovery of new books, authors, and genres at no cost with just a free library card.

The Summer Reading Program will officially launch on June 1. In-person registration will be available at library branches alongside special kick-off events featuring family-friendly entertainment such as concerts, movies, crafts, and other activities. The program will also showcase performances and programs from talented artists, partners, and library staff until July 27.

The Friends of the Public Library fund the Summer Reading Program. For a complete list of important dates related to this event, visit www.abqlibrary.org.
