City of Albuquerque Gears Up for Summer Youth Programs with Spring Into Summer Event

Albuquerque’s annual Spring into Summer event is set to return on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Barelas Community Center & Park. The event aims to celebrate the arrival of warm weather and assist families in getting ready for the upcoming summer season.

According to Cristin Chavez-Smith, leader of One ABQ: YouthConnect, the event is a platform for the community to enjoy the weather while learning about various youth and family programs offered across the city. Chavez-Smith emphasized the importance of providing safe spaces for children to grow and play, ensuring that programs are tailored to meet their needs.

Mayor Tim Keller highlighted the significance of offering affordable and engaging summer programs for Albuquerque families. He stressed the importance of keeping youth engaged during the summer months for their safety and well-being. Mayor Keller expressed enthusiasm for another summer filled with fun and learning at the City's facilities.

As the City of Albuquerque gears up for summer, various departments will be present at the event to provide information and support to families. Programs offered by City departments include Aquatics, Bank on Burque, Open Space, Parks & Recreation, Senior Affairs, Summer Lunch Programs, Youth & Family Services, and more.

The City of Albuquerque offers a range of full-day free or low-cost summer programs at community centers, multi-generational centers, select APS locations, and the Open Space Visitor’s Center. Additionally, partial day camps and classes are available at locations such as the BioPark, Albuquerque Museum, Explora, recreation facilities, and libraries.

Various summer programs cater to different age groups, with opportunities for children of all ages to participate in activities such as swim lessons, tennis lessons, pickleball lessons, junior golf, bicycle classes, and repair workshops. Additionally, early childhood programs like Early Head Start, Preschool, and NM Pre-K are available to serve children from infancy to five years old.

In preparation for the summer programs, lottery registrations for Community Center and Multi-Gen Center programs will take place from May 6 to May 17. Teen Nights for adolescents aged 12 to 19 are also on the agenda, with registration details to be announced soon.
