Four undergraduates from The University of New Mexico Department of Nuclear Engineering showcased their talents and expertise at the 2024 American Nuclear Society (ANS) Student Conference, hosted at Penn State University. Lauren Bailey, Alexandra Martinez, Courtney Mace, and Michael Trombetta were recognized for their outstanding contributions at the event.

Lauren Bailey, Alexandra Martinez, and Courtney Mace presented their capstone senior design project titled "Model Development of a Hydrogen Cooled Multi-Pin Particle Bed Reactor." Their hard work and dedication paid off as they clinched the award for the best undergraduate poster, surpassing 28 other posters from 24 universities. Michael Trombetta's presentation on "Radioisotope Retention in Molten Lead for LFR Source Term" earned him the title of best undergraduate paper in the Nuclear Fuels and Materials track, outshining nine other papers in the category.

Looking ahead, it was announced that The University of New Mexico will have the honor of hosting the ANS student conference next year, further solidifying their position within the nuclear engineering community.

The success of these talented undergraduates not only reflects their dedication and hard work but also highlights the quality of education and research opportunities available at The University of New Mexico Department of Nuclear Engineering. Congratulations to Lauren Bailey, Alexandra Martinez, Courtney Mace, and Michael Trombetta on their well-deserved recognition at the ANS Student Conference.
