Schaljo-Hernandez, Christopher, District 1 Commissioner - Chair | Doña Ana County

Doña Ana County Commission Chair Christopher Schaljo-Hernandez expressed the goal of the Summer Enrichment Internship Program, stating, "This summer internship program is not just about investing in our future leaders; it is about empowering them to shape their own futures. Together, we're opening doors, fostering talent, and building a community where every young mind has the opportunity to thrive."

The program, now in its fourth year, is a collaboration between Doña Ana County and the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED). It aims to provide high school students with valuable internship opportunities in government agencies, businesses, and local organizations. Students aged at least 15 years old, as well as recent graduates from the class of 2024, are eligible to apply for the program.

Selected participants will receive competitive pay of $15 per hour, up to a total of $2,400. They will also have the opportunity to engage in paid internships, ensuring that their hard work and dedication are duly rewarded. It is important to note that students who are 15 years old will need to complete a work permit as required by local regulations.

Applications for interested students and recent graduates can be submitted through the Doña Ana County website at www.donaanacounty.org/summerintern. Additionally, those interested in applying for a Summer Intern Coordinator position can apply at www.donaanacounty.org/interncoordinator.
