Santa Fe, NM – The Native Treasures Art Market is celebrating its 20th anniversary, marking two decades of preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Indigenous artists. The market will take place over Memorial Day Weekend, from Saturday, May 25 to Sunday, May 26, 2024, at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Artist Nocona Burgess, reflecting on the growth of the market, expressed his satisfaction, stating, "I've been doing NT since the first show and have enjoyed how much it has grown. I feel like I've grown along with the show, and it's helped my career by participating. I like the smaller show because you can get a lot of good feedback from collectors and potential collectors on new works."
Interim Director Danyelle Means of the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture shared her excitement for the milestone anniversary, stating, “The Museum of Indian Arts & Culture is thrilled for the 20th edition of the Native Treasures Art Market.” She emphasized MIAC's commitment to highlighting Native voices and the impact of their powerful histories, art, and culture.
The 20th anniversary of the Native Treasures Art Market will showcase high-quality artworks across various mediums, including painting, sculpture, jewelry, fashion, pottery, and textiles. The event aims to foster appreciation and understanding of Indigenous art forms.
In addition to the main art market, the Native Treasures Night Market will be held on Friday, May 24, offering an early shopping opportunity accompanied by refreshments and live music. The event will also feature the MIAC Living Treasure Ceremony, honoring individuals like Anthony Lovato, Patricia Michaels, and Martha Arquero for their contributions to Native art and culture.
The market will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26, with general admission priced at $5 for adults and free admission for those under 18. Attendees can enjoy educational programs and performances by groups like the Cloud Eagle Dancers, Lighting Boy Foundation, and Tesuque Pueblo Dancers.
