Commissioner Hank Hughes and Commissioner Justin Greene are set to introduce a proclamation declaring April 11th as "New Mexico Electoral Excellence Day." The proclamation aims to recognize the efforts of the Secretary of State and the Santa Fe County Clerk’s Office in enhancing the fairness, efficiency, and transparency of elections, vital components of the democratic process.

According to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Elections Performance Index (EPI), New Mexico achieved the remarkable position of #1 in the 2022 EPI with an index score of 88%. This improvement highlights the state's commitment to electoral administration excellence and voter accessibility, moving up from #25 in 2020.

County Clerk Katharine E. Clark praised the collaborative efforts that led to this achievement, stating, “Earning the top spot on this list highlights how hard the Secretary of State’s office and all 33 County Clerks and their teams in New Mexico have worked."

Commissioner Greene emphasized the importance of the County Commission's role in overseeing the local election process and commended Clerk Clark and her team for their professionalism and efficiency in ensuring accurate and accountable elections.

The Board of County Commissioners (BCC) is scheduled to vote on the proclamation on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, during their regular meeting at 2:00 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Commission Chambers at 102 Grant Avenue and will be broadcast on various platforms.

The proposed proclamation serves as a testament to the dedication and hard work put forth by election officials in New Mexico to enhance the electoral process and foster trust among constituents.
