The University of New Mexico has been recognized for its exceptional work in construction as the UNM New Mexico Mutual Champions Training Center has been awarded the Best Buildings Award by the Association of General Contractors (AGC) New Mexico. The prestigious award was presented to UNM in the category of New Construction within the $2.5 million to $5 million range.

In addition to this recognition, UNM Athletics has also received attention from the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) who expressed interest in featuring the facility in their magazine's "Facilities Showcase" section.

The Champions Training Center, spanning 11,300 square feet and located in the South End Zone of University Stadium, caters to UNM Division 1 and Olympic athletes. The facility, designed to inspire UNM student-athletes, offers a space for training, maintaining physical health, and achieving competitive excellence. It replaces an inadequate temporary tent facility and supports coexisting team training while incorporating advanced technology for injury prevention and rehabilitation.

On game days, the facility adds to the excitement as the Lobos enter the playing field via a ceremonial pathway integrated into the Champions Training Center. The center was developed through a partnership with McCLAIN + YU Architecture and Design and AGC General Contractor Franken Construction Company, who also nominated the facility for the prestigious award.

The AGC NM Best Buildings & Education Auction event is scheduled for May 17 at Sandia Resort and Casino, celebrating the best in commercial construction. The event provides an opportunity to recognize outstanding projects and the expertise of crafts in the industry.

UNM Facilities Design & Construction, a department of Institutional Support Services (ISS), played a crucial role in the development of the Champions Training Center. The department focuses on collaborative outcomes aligned with the University's mission, enhancing the campus experience with safe, sustainable, and beautiful environments.

The recognition of the UNM New Mexico Mutual Champions Training Center by AGC New Mexico highlights the university's commitment to excellence in construction and its dedication to providing top-notch facilities for its student-athletes.
