U.S. Senate candidate Nella Domenici (R) said in a post on X that the southern border is "lawless and out of control." Domenici's statement was in response to a video that shows a group of people illegally entering El Paso and knocking down several Texas National Guard soldiers in the process.

"It doesn't have to be this way. Martin Heinrich and Joe Biden need to be held accountable," said Domenici.

On March 21, a group of more than 100 people broke through a wire fence at the border in El Paso, the New York Post reported. A video shared on X by the Post reporter shows the "chaotic" scene as would-be illegal immigrants "swarmed" Texas National Guard soldiers. "The surge today in El Paso is the direct result of the unsustainable chaos President Biden has unleashed on the border," a spokesperson from Governor Greg Abbott's office told the New York Post.

According to statistics from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), between 2021 and 2023, there have been 6.4 million encounters at the Southwest border. Since January alone, there have been 1.1 million encounters.

“They’re not going through someone who’s going to look out for their best interests, who’s going to take care of them, ensure that they have good accommodations,” said Homeland Security Investigations' Deputy Special Agent in Charge, Jason Stevens, according to KRQE News. “They’re going through a transnational criminal organization, and that organization is here strictly to make money, and they don’t care how they make it.”

Nella Domenici is running as a Republican for U.S. Senate in New Mexico. She has served on the boards of Alliance Bernstein LP, Cognizant Technology Services, and Change Healthcare, according to LinkedIn. She holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a JD from Georgetown University Law.
