The New Mexico Climate Investment Center (NMCIC) is in search of individuals to join its inaugural NMCIC Board of Directors. The center, established in October 2023, aims to tackle the challenges posed by climate change while promoting economic prosperity for low-income households and businesses.
Albuquerque District 7 Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn, a member of the board's nominating committee, expressed her enthusiasm for the NMCIC's mission, stating, "The NMCIC brings an unprecedented approach to diminish the impact of climate change for low-income households, small businesses, and tribal communities." Fiebelkorn encouraged interested individuals to apply for a position on the board, emphasizing the center's role in assisting families and communities in addressing the costs associated with creating environmentally friendly and safe spaces.
Once the NMCIC board is assembled, its primary responsibilities will include establishing governance processes, strategic planning, and designing the center's business structure. Additionally, the board will be responsible for appointing the center's first chief executive officer.
The board will consist of five to 11 voting members who will serve terms of one to two years, with the possibility of extensions. Candidates for the board will be evaluated based on their expertise in areas such as clean technology investment, climate change mitigation and adaptation, environmental justice, economic challenges faced by low-income groups, investment fund management, economic development, and nonprofit management.
Prospective board members will also be assessed on their availability for board and committee meetings, which are estimated to require approximately eight hours per month during the initial year, as well as their background in community leadership and organizational development.
Individuals interested in applying for a position on the NMCIC Board of Directors can find more information and the application form on the center's website at https://nmclimateinvestmentcenter.org/board-applications.
