The University of New Mexico (UNM) has announced the commencement of a competitive application process for proposals to establish new initiatives in line with the University’s strategic plan. The initiatives include WeR1 College of Arts & Sciences, Advancing Inclusive Excellence, Leaders in Student Success, and a Staff Professional Development Program.
According to a press release by UNM, the WeR1 initiative aims to highlight interdisciplinary expertise through public-facing events such as symposiums or exhibits. The Advancing Inclusive Excellence initiative is seeking proposals for activities that promote diversity and inclusion. The Leaders in Student Success initiative encourages projects that leverage expertise to foster student success. Additionally, the Staff Professional Development Program provides funding for staff training, seminars, and conferences to enhance workforce skills and support professional growth.
"The College of Arts & Sciences is unique in the University in terms of our breadth of expertise and the significance of our instructional mission," said Jennifer Malat, Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at UNM. "We seek proposals to work across disciplines to create a stronger college and to publicly demonstrate what we can achieve together. I encourage established and emerging leaders to submit an application or proposal."
The College of Arts & Sciences at UNM encompasses 24 departments and schools offering a diverse range of 70 undergraduate programs and 37 graduate and doctoral programs in humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. As a significant catalyst for research, it plays a pivotal role in research endeavors at New Mexico's sole Carnegie-Designated Research 1 (R1) institution. According to information provided on the College's webpage by UNM, students are offered opportunities for community-engaged research and access to interdisciplinary museums and research centers. Furthermore, students collaborate with leading experts in their respective fields.
