New member joins ALTSD Policy Advisory Committee

The New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department (ALTSD) has announced the appointment of Laura Hopkins to the ALTSD Policy Advisory Committee (PAC). In her new role, Hopkins will be instrumental in formulating recommendations and raising awareness about the department's initiatives aimed at improving services for New Mexico's aging and long-term care community.

According to an ALTSD press release, Hopkins assumed her role as a Special Advisor at ALTSD in March 2023. She is now transitioning into the position of a PAC member, effective from Jan. 1, 2024. With over four decades of experience under her belt, Hopkins specializes in the development, implementation, and management of programs dedicated to seniors and individuals with disabilities.

Cabinet Secretary Designate Jen Paul Schroer expressed her delight at Hopkins' appointment to the PAC. "We are delighted to welcome Laura to the Policy Advisory Committee," Schroer said. "Her proven track record and dedication to public service align perfectly with our goal of ensuring all New Mexicans have access to the highest quality of care and services. Laura’s wealth of experience and insights will undoubtedly enhance our efforts."

Expressing gratitude for her appointment, Hopkins acknowledged Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and Secretary Designate Schroer for their faith in her capabilities. "I want to thank Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and Sec. Designate Schroer for their continued confidence in my ability to serve the department and my fellow New Mexicans," she said. "I am excited to continue the vital work of the agency and help Sec. Designate Schoer achieve her vision for our state’s older adults."

The ALTSD was established in 2004 as New Mexico's Aging and Disability Resource Center. It oversees Adult Protective Services and the State Unit on Aging while actively collaborating with the Aging Network. The department focuses on supporting aging in place, assisting caregivers, combating senior hunger, promoting healthy aging, and addressing emerging needs, according to the About webpage provided by ALTSD.
