The University of New Mexico (UNM) announced that The National Institute of Flamenco (NIF) will be presenting the traditional 'La Estrella' tradition. In "La Estrella: A Flamenco Journey of the Kings’ Quest," a production dramatizes the Three Wise Men's journey to the manger. This exciting event will take place at NM’s Rodey Theatre from December 15 to 17.

Let's start with some details about this upcoming performance. The production will take place at NM’s Rodey Theatre from Dec. 15 to 17. The event will feature flamenco dance and music, Spanish Christmas carols (villancicos), as well as performances in Escuela Bolera, Spanish Folk Dance, and African Dance. The impressive showcase involves over 100 student dancers and musicians, according to a press release by UNM.

Moving on, let's delve deeper into the narrative focus of this unique show. "The show delves into the mythical origins of the three kings, exploring the diverse lands from which they come— the Middle East, Africa, and the Occidental," Marisol Encinias, according to a press release by UNM. "It looks at the symbolism behind the gifts the kings present to the newborn in Bethlehem beneath the guiding star, delving into the significance of gold, myrrh, and frankincense."

Now let's hear from Marisol Encinias on her feelings about this production. "This dynamic flamenco dance and music production is a delightful blend of humor, drama, passion, and joy. I believe it is an incredible holiday spectacle suitable for audiences of all ages and backgrounds," Encinias, according to a press release by UNM. "Every year tears well up as I watch this production. Perhaps it's partly due to the sense of catharsis as we conclude the year, but I genuinely believe this work is truly special! I hope you will join us for this extraordinary experience! It's a show that is not to be missed!"

Finally, let's explore the relationship between The National Institute of Flamenco and the University of New Mexico. Established in 1982, the National Institute of Flamenco, a 501c3 non-profit organization, collaborates with the University of New Mexico (UNM). The partnership is particularly significant as UNM's Department of Theatre and Dance houses the sole accredited dance program in the United States offering flamenco as a concentration within its BA, BAIA, MA, and MFA degrees, according to the National Institute of Flamenco's about website.
