New Mexico State University (NMSU) announced that Monica J. Lury, administrative assistant at the Cooperative Extension Service Northern District Office, has been awarded the 2022 Stephen W. and Robert E. Roberts Memorial Staff Award in recognition of her contributions. The award is to honor Lury's dedication and service as an administrative assistant who supports five district department heads and occasionally serves as the lead administrative assistant in county offices.

This prestigious accolade brings with it some substantial benefits for its recipients.
Lury will receive the annual cash award, presented to a non-exempt employee demonstrating exceptional dedication and service to the university, at a ceremony on November 29 at Corbett Center Student Union. Lury, a dedicated 24-year employee of NMSU, was pleasantly surprised by the distinction. She has efficiently managed administrative tasks for multiple county offices concurrently and played a crucial role in onboarding and training new employees, according to a press release by NMSU.

Beyond her impressive administrative capabilities, Lury also enjoys high praise from her superiors.
"Monica is an exemplary employee," said Christina Turner, Extension Northern District department head, according to a press release by NMSU. "She has proven herself self-sufficient and identifies the best way to keep the Northern District running smoothly. Monica keeps up-to-date on all NMSU processes and ensures that all other administrative assistants throughout the district are well informed and properly equipped to do their jobs. She routinely goes above and beyond to support the offices throughout the Northern District."

In addition to receiving accolades from higher-ups, Lury shares personal satisfaction derived from her position.
"My favorite aspect of my job is helping people, whether it’s my co-workers or the youth of New Mexico," said Lury, according to a press release by NMSU. "I enjoy getting to know them, so that I know where I can help be beneficial in their lives."

The Cooperative Extension Service where Lury works plays a significant role within NMSU and the wider New Mexico community.
The New Mexico Cooperative Extension Service, a part of NMSU’s College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences, provides valuable, research-based information and programs to enhance the quality of life for residents in New Mexico. CES has a presence in all 33 counties, and numerous Tribal areas, and engages in partnerships with over 1,000 organizations, according to the Cooperative Extension Service website provided by NMSU.
