New Mexico Rep. Greg Nibert has expressed his interest in filling the Senate District 27 seat, which was recently vacated by long-time Senator Stuart Ingle. Nibert submitted his name to the Chaves, Curry, DeBaca, Lea, and Roosevelt County Commissions for consideration. He stated that it would be an honor to follow in Ingle's footsteps and continue his legacy in the New Mexico Senate.

"Senator Ingle will be remembered as a champion of Eastern New Mexico and really, all of New Mexico. He served as a mentor to many, including myself. He set a very high bar for public service, and it would be an honor to follow in his footsteps," said Nibert, who currently serves in the New Mexico House of Representatives.

In a press release, Nibert went on to say that he is “recognized as a strong advocate for oil and gas, agriculture, water, crime and child abuse prevention, and traditional family values,” values that he believes make him a proper candidate to represent eastern New Mexico. He also believes this would amplify his voice in the New Mexican government, as the Senate is much smaller than the New Mexico House of Representatives.

Furthermore, Nibert has garnered endorsements from several fellow representatives. Rep. Andrea Reeb, who represents Curry and Roosevelt Counties, Rep. Martin Zamora, who represents Curry, Roosevelt, and De Baca Counties, and Rep. Larry Scott, who represents Lea County, have all expressed their support for Nibert's candidacy.

Nibert is currently serving his fourth term in the New Mexico House of Representatives and holds a leadership position as the House Republican Whip. His experience and dedication to public service make him a strong contender for the Senate seat.

Senator Stuart Ingle announced his retirement from politics on Oct. 25 after 39 years as a New Mexican lawmaker. He was first elected to represent Chaves, Curry, De Baca, Lea, and Roosevelt counties in 1984. Ingle's retirement has created an opportunity for Nibert to potentially continue the work and legacy of the esteemed senator.

As the selection process moves forward, Nibert's qualifications and endorsements will likely be taken into consideration by the county commissions. If chosen, Nibert will have the opportunity to represent the interests of eastern New Mexico in the New Mexico Senate.
