The University of New Mexico has announced that UNM Food will be hosting the 6th Annual La Po Goes Local dining event. The event will celebrate the flavors and culture of New Mexico through locally sourced ingredients and heritage-inspired recipes, according to a press release.
The La Po Goes Local event will take place in La Po Plaza on October 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. Dishes for the event will be sourced from local providers, including La Montanita Co-op, Nelson Meats, Bueno Foods, Tucumcari Mountain Cheese Factory, and Sichler Farms. The menu will feature gourmet Esquite Tostado with queso crema or queso fresco, crispy fried bread, a Native American stew, and other regional recipes. Bueno Foods will also be roasting green chile on-site to enhance the flavors of Fall in New Mexico.
For dessert, attendees can enjoy lavender cupcakes and red chile sugar cookies. And to quench their thirst, refreshing watermelon and cantaloupe aguas frescas will be served. Meal plan holders can attend with a meal swipe or a discounted meal plan dining dollar door rate of $9.25, while non-meal plan holders can join for a dinner door rate of $11.15.
The event will also feature partnerships with Visit Albuquerque and local businesses that have donated gift cards for raffles. Attendees can look forward to lively performances and appearances by the UNM Mariachi band.
Amanda Gerard, manager of Institutional Support Services for UNM Food, expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, "Our dining program features a legacy night in the fall and one in the spring as a semester highlight and special thank you to our meal plan holders. It is our chance to give our customers a really unique experience. La Po Goes Local allows us the privilege to honor our culinary heritage and the agricultural community in New Mexico."
