Bernalillo County's East Mountain Celebration returns for eclipse

Bernalillo County has announced the return of the annual East Mountain Celebration, coinciding with a special focus on the annular eclipse. The event will feature live music, children's activities, artisan vendors, local businesses, and non-profit organizations according to a press release.

Complimentary eclipse viewing glasses will be provided to attendees, ensuring that everyone can safely enjoy the celestial event.

The annual East Mountain Celebration is scheduled for October 14 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Los Vecinos Community Center in Tijeras. The annular eclipse will occur on that day when the moon moves in front of the sun, aligning itself farthest from Earth.

The event will kick off at 8 a.m. with an opening by Commissioner Eric Olivas and a presentation of colors by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office and Fire and Rescue color guards. Angeline Jensen will perform the National Anthem, followed by live music from Monica and the Krew.

"We’re preserving the cherished elements of the East Mountain Celebration while introducing an exciting new activity," said District 5 Commissioner Eric Olivas. "We’re thrilled to offer our attendees the opportunity to witness this rare celestial occurrence among friends and neighbors gathered at Los Vecinos Community Center."

In addition to the eclipse viewing, attendees can enjoy local food and adult beverages from Turn Distillery. A park-and-ride option will be available at Tijeras Village Hall, with free parking at A. Montoya Elementary School and Roosevelt Middle School.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs for seating. There will also be a free East Mountain Celebration screen printing, allowing guests to bring items for a commemorative graphic.

The event will also recognize outstanding community contributors with the Outstanding Citizen Awards presented to Polk’s Folly Butcher Shop and Farm Stand, represented by Zach and Ethan Withers, the Museum of the American Military Family, represented by Dr. Allen Dale Olsen, and Leon Kessinger, Debra Neari, and Johnathan Ortiz.

Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate the East Mountain community and witness the annular eclipse.
