Bernalillo County Commissioners have granted approval for an industrial revenue bonds (IRBs) request to fund the construction of a storage facility. The request, made by Johnson Storage & Moving Co., LLC, was given unanimous approval with a 4-0 vote. The facility, which will be located at 118th Street and Central Ave., NW, aims to provide moving and storage services to both local residents and individuals from out of state.

The IRBs offer tax exemptions to lower the costs associated with corporate expansions or relocations within New Mexico. The project is expected to generate 20 new full-time job opportunities and preserve 22 existing positions. To meet certain conditions, such as a portion of abated taxes typically paid to school districts and the county, a payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT) will be required.

Bernalillo County District 2 Commissioner, Steven Michael Quezada, expressed his excitement for the project and the positive impact it will have on the local economy. Johnson Storage & Moving Company, established in 1900, is a global logistics enterprise specializing in storage and relocation services. With its original location in Denver, the company has expanded across six states, including New Mexico.

Overall, the approval of the IRBs request for the storage facility represents a significant step towards economic growth and job creation in Bernalillo County. The project will not only provide much-needed moving and storage services but also contribute to the local economy by bringing in new jobs. With the support of the county commissioners, Johnson Storage & Moving Company can move forward with its plans to expand its operations and continue its legacy in the transportation industry.
