The Economic Development Department (EDD) in Albuquerque has recently received six international awards for their outstanding efforts in workforce development, small business support, and the film industry. These honors were bestowed upon the EDD by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) on September 20, 2023, according to a press release from the City of Albuquerque.

Among the awards received by the EDD, four were related to workforce development. The first award recognized the department's successful partnerships with educational institutions such as Central New Mexico Community College and CNM Ingenuity, which provide administrative support and training courses for the program. The second award, in the category of Talent Development & Retention, applauded the EDD's efforts in strengthening the local workforce, improving the skills of disadvantaged workers, and creating employment and experiential learning opportunities.

The EDD also received a bronze award for their workforce program focused on early childhood education workers. In addition, the New Mexico Minority Business Development Business Center earned a silver award for their entrepreneurship support initiatives. The Albuquerque Film Office, which is part of the EDD, was recognized with a silver award for their "We Are Albuquerque Film" campaign and a bronze award for hosting the 'Stranger Things' Season 4 Premiere event at the KiMo Theatre in downtown Albuquerque.

The EDD's achievements have been praised by city officials and leaders. Chief Administrative Officer Lawrence Rael commended the economic development team for their efforts in making Albuquerque a better place for the workforce, businesses, and families.
