NMSU's Clayton Livestock Research Center to have a Field Day on Sept. 18

NMSU's Clayton Livestock Research Center is gearing up for an exciting event on September 18. The center will be hosting a field day from 2 to 6 p.m. at its location in Clayton, New Mexico. The best part? Attendance is free of charge!

The field day will kick off with registration, followed by introductory remarks and guided tours of the center's feed mill upgrades and processing barn renovations. Attendees will also be treated to a delicious dinner during the event. But the real highlight of the day will be the research presentations.

These presentations will cover a wide range of topics related to cattle health and performance. Some of the areas of focus include the impact of water intake on newly received heifers, the assessment of visual morbidity scores in relation to temperature, and ruminal fermentation studies in beef cattle. The presentations will also explore the use of innovative technologies like SmartFeed and SmartWeight systems, as well as greenfeed systems to measure methane emissions in cattle.

Shad Cox, the program operation director for NMSU's Agricultural Experiment Station, expressed his excitement for the event. "We are excited to invite everyone to join us for the afternoon presentations after we showcase renovations and improvements to the feed mill and processing barn, as well as demonstrating the use of novel feeding and monitoring technologies," he said.

The Clayton Livestock Research Center is dedicated to conducting research that enhances cattle health and optimizes their performance. The center's primary areas of focus include cattle shipping protocols, nutrition and management practices throughout the feedlot-to-slaughter process, and research on irrigated pastures and native grasslands.
