Albuquerque introduced Luis Fitch's art exhibition "Nortesur" on Sept. 11, which is set to debut at the South Broadway Cultural Center on Sept. 14, accompanied by a public reception from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition showcases Fitch's artistic journey, starting from his upbringing along the Tijuana-San Diego border to his current status as a globally recognized Mexican artist living in the U.S., according to a press release.

In Fitch's limited-edition oversized art prints, he depicts the tension between developing and industrialized nations, using vivid colors, stark juxtapositions and intricate Mexican contemporary themes. This exhibition provides an opportunity to delve into the distinctive cross-cultural perspective of one artist. As part of his involvement with the Tamarind Institute's weeklong printmaking workshop in May, Fitch collaborated with three local artists – Dora ‘Raiz’ Chavarria, Lena Kassicieh and Julianna Kirwin – whose prints, alongside Fitch's limited-edition works, will be featured in this month-long exhibition at the South Broadway Cultural Center, according to the press release.

“I feel incredibly grateful to have been given this opportunity to create a piece of art at the same place where other famous artists such as Rufino Tamayo, José Luis Cuevas, Frank Romero and José Bedia have printed their work is an incredible privilege... Overall, it’s a tremendous honor and a dream come true,” Fitch said, according to the release.

"Nortesur" derives its name from the Spanish words for "north" and "south," symbolizing the dynamic exchange of influence between two countries separated by a constantly shifting border. Intermediary spaces where identities evolve, influenced by cross-border migration, economic integration and shared environmental challenges are explored in his art. "Nortesur" is available for public viewing until Oct. 14 and admission is free. The South Broadway Cultural Center gallery welcomes visitors from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Tuesday to Saturday, according to the release.
