Brueggemann: 'In the vibrant tapestry of Albuquerque's artistic landscape, our public art stands tall, a testament to the city's boundless creativity'

The inaugural episode of "Take Another Look: 'What is Public Art?'" will be launched on Aug. 9 by the City of Albuquerque's Department of Arts & Culture's Public Art Urban Enhancement Division, according to a press release. Hosted by Joni Palmer, Ph.D., the series engages artists, community members, city staff and leaders in a dialogue to delve into the essence of public art, the Albuquerque Public Art Program's history, ongoing projects, and the influence of public art within Albuquerque according to a press release.

"In the vibrant tapestry of Albuquerque's artistic landscape, our public art stands tall, a testament to the city's boundless creativity," Sherri Brueggemann, division manager of the Pubic Art Urban Enhancement Division, said. 

"Take Another Look: 'What is Public Art?'" offers an insightful dialogue featuring Brueggemann and Dr. Erika Doss, the Edith O’Donnell distinguished chair at the Institute of Art History at The University of Texas at Dallas. In this discussion, Brueggemann, Doss and host Palmer engage in a multifaceted exploration of public art. They delve into the very definition of public art and dissect its various dimensions, according to the press release.

“I invite you to catch our captivating new podcast, 'Take Another Look: 'What is Public Art?'' and delve into the fascinating history, techniques, trends, challenges and diverse perspectives that shape the essence of our city's artistic journey,” Brueggemann said. 

Additionally, the conversation delves into contemporary trends and the challenges and opportunities that characterize the realm of public art, shedding light on the innovative approaches employed to navigate in the field. Furthermore, the episode offers a glimpse into the projects and research endeavors that both Brueggemann and Doss are currently working on. Episodes will be launched on the second Wednesday of each month, commencing at 10 a.m., according to the press release.
