A former APD police officer recently sat down for an interview to provide some insight into how he found a thriving career as an insurance agent after retiring from the force. Farm Bureau Financial Services was originally established in 1939 to address the liability insurance requirements of Iowa farmers, but today the company offers a wide range of insurance services to customers in states across the U.S. including New Mexico.

“At Farm Bureau Financial Services, we’re about more than just insurance–we’re about you, your family and those moments that matter,” Farm Bureau agent Mark Krueger wrote on his LinkedIn page. “As a Farm Bureau agent, I want to help make sure you have the coverage you need and are prepared for what lies ahead. It’s your future. Let’s protect it.”

Krueger is a veteran and worked as a Law Enforcement Specialist while in the Air Force. After leaving the Air Force, he served 20 years as an officer of the Albuquerque Police Department, then went on to serve another 6 years with the University of New Mexico Police Department before leaving the career field. After 30 combined years of law enforcement, he felt that it was time for a change and became an agent for Farm Bureau Financial Services in 2017. He prides himself on being an agent for Farm Bureau and provided insight into the company's mission and what makes it stand out from other companies.

"Farm Bureau Financial Services is actually a full service insurance company," Krueger told New Mexico Sun. "Our mission is to protect livelihoods and futures by ensuring our clients are protected and covered. We were recognized on Ward’s Top 50 list and one of only seven companies named to the Top 50 in both P&C (Property & Casualty) as well as Life insurance."

According to Krueger, what sets the company apart is its personal approach to customer service.

"We are all about building relationships with our clients and working with them to make sure that they are covered," Krueger said. "It’s truly about building relationships with our clients. I pride myself on that level of interaction because I’m not opposed to going down and sitting down with someone at their kitchen table and doing that on a regular basis."

Krueger has previously done some sponsorships with the New Mexico Business Coalition and supports the Coalition's efforts to represent small business owners like him to ensure that their businesses will thrive.

"Small business owners are the backbone of the country, so that’s what they do and that’s why I am involved with them because they truly have the voice to look out for business owners," Krueger said.

In November, Krueger will be sponsoring the November Heroes banquet, which recognizes law enforcement, first responders and veterans that have died in the line of duty. As a veteran and former police officer, the event is very personal to Krueger. The event has several different levels of sponsorship for business owners and Krueger will be recognized as a gold member.

According to the company website, Farm Bureau Financial Services started in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1939 when the Iowa Farm Bureau established Iowa Farm Mutual Insurance Company to address the liability insurance requirements of farmers in the state. Now the company’s 1,900 employees and 4,000 field associates work with individuals from diverse backgrounds, assisting them in safeguarding their most valuable assets.

Forbes has recognized Farm Bureau Financial Services as one of "America's Best Insurance Companies" two years in a row. A survey of over 15,000 insurance consumers in the U.S. was conducted, and Farm Bureau was one of the 3,300 companies evaluated.
