Lo: 'I am honored to have been elected as the new Vice-President/President-Elect of ACRL'

On July 6, 2023, The University of New Mexico revealed that Leo Lo, the Dean of the College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences (CULLS), has been elected as the Vice-President/President-Elect of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). 

In response to his election, Lo stated his appreciation for being chosen for this role within ACRL according to a press release.

"I am honored to have been elected as the new Vice-President/President-Elect of ACRL" Lo said.

Lo's term as president-elect will begin in July 2023, and he will assume the presidency in July 2024 for a one-year term. ACRL, with a membership of over 7,200 professionals, serves as the foremost association for academic libraries, providing support and guidance to higher education professionals in navigating the dynamic realms of scholarly research, information access and student achievement according to a press release by the University of New Mexico.

"This opportunity to serve the academic library community is a privilege, and I am committed to advancing our profession" Lo continued. "I look forward to collaborating with my fellow ACRL members, the Board, and our partners to make a positive impact. One of my priorities is to explore the applications and implications of incorporating artificial intelligence technologies into academic librarianship."

In September 2021, Leo Lo joined the University of New Mexico as the Dean and Professor of the College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences (CULLS). In his role, he oversees a team of over 120 full-time faculty and staff and provides leadership for various areas, including University Libraries operations, Organization, Information, and Learning Sciences (OILS) programs, and the UNM Press. Lo's research interests are focused on critical topics such as open access, higher education management, organization development, leadership, and the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in education according to a press release by the University of New Mexico.
