Local pet owner Santillanes: 'I, honestly, believe somebody took him'

A 20-year-old peacock named Bob is missing and is believed to be stolen from his home in the North Valley.

“I can’t stop looking for him,” Ray Santillanes told KRQE. “I want him home.”

Bob showed up on the Santillanes’ upstairs deck about 20 years ago and has been a fixture in the neighborhood ever since then. Though the pheasant wanders off on occasion, it almost always returns before dark for dinner. “He likes the Vienna sausages, and he wants them chopped," Santillanes told KOB. "And he loves ground beef, fried."

But the peacock disappeared a few days ago and there has been no sign of him. “I was just cleaning his deck, and he went out on the back porch,” Santillanes told KOB. “And eventually, I started doing other stuff, and then he didn’t come home before it was getting dark.”

Santillanes said he has searched the area and even checked the zoo. Bob didn’t respond to Santillanes’ special whistle.

“I, honestly, believe somebody took him,” Santillanes said told KRQE. “Maybe they were just trying to protect him or thought he was lost. If somebody took him, I just want him back.”

Bob is well-known in the area, often stopping by different homes. Neighbors noticed he hadn’t been seen and also became concerned about his whereabouts and safety.

“We would like to have him back,” Claudia Patrick, a nearby neighbor, told KRQE. “Everybody loves him. They take videos of him. They come around and inquire about him. All of the kids love him of course. I’ve never heard anyone say anything bad about him.”

Liz Quintero normally sees Bob each morning from her neighborhood window. “I didn’t see him, and I was like ‘wow, he should be there for breakfast,’ neighbor Liz Quintero told KOB. “Then he said it was missing, so it was kind of sad,”

Losing Bob feels like losing a family member to Santillanes. Anyone with information about Bob’s whereabouts can contact Santillanes at rays87107@gmail.com.
