Construction is booming in the community of Mesa Del Sol. Between Netflix, government institutions, and its first grocery store, Mesa Del Sol is creating its own urban center.

“We’re growing our own micro-economy up here that’s allowing us to build more homes,” Steven Chavez, managing partner of Mesa Del Sol, told KRQE. “We have about 320 apartments going up right now under construction.”

Chavez said there are plans for the area that include high-end housing, a large mixed-use facility, and more office space.

“We’re also going to get a brewery, that’s going to start probably construction here in a few months,” Chavez said. “We just learned the permits got approved by the city. We’re also going to get a wine and cocktail bar.”

Building a top-rate educational system will also be a top priority for the community, according to KRQE. Chavez said he has spoken with charter schools that expressed an interest in relocating to the area.

“It’s neat to see Albuquerque and the state of New Mexico is moving forward and we’re bringing in the right type of jobs,” Chavez said. “We’re bringing in the right type of homes. We’re using the sustainability, and we’re trying to do things a little different than what they have done in the past. I think it’s working out quite well.”

The area also has been rumored as a potential site for a stadium for New Mexico United, a United Soccer League team, KRQE reported.

Chavez also said that discussions are underway to bring even more to Mesa Del Sol.

“We’re talking to a company outside of New Mexico who wants to do some MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fighting and make it like a venue that can accommodate the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) fights,” he said.
