The construction of two new buildings has been added to the already massive renovation and development at Winrock Town Center in Uptown.
Goodman Realty, the project’s developer, said one of the new buildings will be the Portland Building, a three-story structure that will be dedicated to office space. Goodman Realty is hoping to attract a top tenant for the building. “We would love to see a corporate headquarters decide to come to Albuquerque,” Darin Sand of the realty group told KRQE.
The second building will also be built for office spaces, but also include an expansive food hall on the bottom floor.
“Can you imagine coming to work and going right down the elevator to this food hall with twenty-plus vendors?” Sand said.
The food hall will be constructed on the plot of land behind Petsmart, just across the street from the park. Initial amenities at the food hall include a deck, an outdoor beer patio, and a great view of the park.
“We’ve had an idea for a food hall for a few years,” Sand said. “Bringing it to this part of the site really just ties in with everything we’re doing with the community gathering place here; it will bring a lot of energy into the core of the site.”
The redevelopment of the old Winrock Mall has been more than 15 years in the making. In 2015, developers said it would be finished in 2018, but ground-breaking ceremonies didn't take place until last year. The redevelopment also includes an open-air shopping district, with a hotel, an IMAX movie theater, a park, and a lake.
Sand said the entire project is expected to last six to eight years. Construction on the Portland building will begin in May and last about a year. There is no start date scheduled as yet for the construction of the food hall project.
The park should be completed by September and the first of the two hotels done by Balloon Fiesta time.
