A church in Las Cruces continued its Valentine’s Day tradition of offering free weddings.
“Weddings are expensive, as most of us who are married know,” Rev. Amy Wilson Feltz at Morning Star Church told KOB. “This is a really cost-effective way but it’s still really beautiful and meaningful.”
This is the second year the church offered free weddings on Valentine’s Day. The weddings were again on the plaza in Las Cruces. Those who wished to tie the knot could either walk up or do a drive-thru ceremony.
“I guess, for lack of a better description, it’s a Las Vegas-style wedding but in a less-Las Vegas kind of way,” Stuart Davenport, Morning Star’s executive minister, told KOB.
Couples had the option to write their own vows, and the church offered flowers, cupcakes and sparkling cider.
“We have a professional photographer in our congregation that will be taking photos that they can email to the couple,” Rev. Wilson Feltz said.
More than 30 couples married or renewed their vows last year, the beginning of what church organizers hope becomes an annual tradition. The process was just under 10 minutes.
“If people are worried about time or they’re coming on their lunch break, you can have all this done within your lunch break,” Davenport said.
