As several major pharmacies put a limit on children's pain relief products, one pediatrician has advice for parents on how to deal with children's fevers.
Pharmacies including CVS, Walgreens and Rite-Aid have put limits on the number of children's pain relief products that can be purchased, according to KOAT 7 News report Thursday.
Dr. Dorsey Beggs said parents shouldn't be overly afraid if their child gets a fever since a fever is the body's natural way of killing germs, KOAT 7 reported.
“Fever is the way your body fights an infection,” Beggs said. “So, when you have a fever, you're basically boiling your blood to kill the germs."
Beggs recommends parents use fever reducer to treat fevers that reach 102 degrees or higher.
Tylenol or suppositories can be used as a substitute for children under 18, he added. It's also important sick children stay hydrated, and parents should remember that it's common for children to get approximately six to eight colds a year.
“I think people have forgotten that,” Beggs said. “So, the very first time that they show a sniffle or a fever, they're like ‘oh my God, something bad is happening’ when it's just the natural course of building immunity. So, you don't have to freak out about all these things."
