An Albuquerque family finally achieved their goal of visiting Disney World in Orlando, Florida, after driving 20 hours in a rented car.

The Moreno family planned to travel by air to Florida but saw those plans interrupted after Southwest Airlines canceled their flight. The trip to Disney World was a Christmas present for their young daughter, Maihemp, and canceling the trip wasn’t an option.

So, they rented the car and began their three-day journey to Florida.

Cindy Moreno told KOB they checked into their hotel around 2 a.m. last Wednesday. They were up again just a few hours later so that Maihemp could finally enjoy her present— a day at the “Happiest Place on Earth.”

“I’m really happy, even though my legs hurt a lot,” Maihemp said in a Zoom interview with KOB. “I’m just really happy and excited to go on more adventures with my cousin and everything.” Cindy said the family is happy things worked out. “That’s mainly the thing that counts is that we’re finally here with our family and being able to just hang out— what we were originally wanting to do,” Cindy said.

The Morenos are hoping to eventually get reimbursed for their car rental charges.
