The New Mexico Runners has partnered with Roadrunner Food Bank for the 2023 indoor soccer season to help feed New Mexico communities in need.

The Runners recently began its fourth season, according to a report by KRQE. The Runners’ jersey features the Roadrunner Food Bank logo. For every jersey sold, the team will donate $10 to the nonprofit organization.

According to the Roadrunner Food Bank website, 1 in 5 children and 1 in 8 New Mexicans is at risk of hunger.

“Exciting is what we can do for the community and not just the community but the roadrunner food bank itself,” said Goalie Hector Castaneda. “That’s what we look for and that’s what we do with the New Mexico Runners, that’s what this team is.”

The Roadrunner Food Bank, according to its website, is a food distribution hub that provides food to people and organizations around the state including food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and regional food banks.

“Every week, tens of thousands of hungry children, seniors, and families are reached through this statewide hunger relief network,” the website stated.

The team will play its first home game on Saturday, Jan. 7 at the Rio Rancho Events Center, according to KRQE. The game kicks off at 2:05 p.m. and fans with a Rio Rancho address will receive free admission.
