The DiverseIT program is working to connect technology with those who might not able to utilize it because of finances and accessibility.

The program takes donated used computers and laptops, scrubs the hard drives, repairs them if needed and gives them away for free to people with disabilities and nonprofits in the community. The DiverseIT program was launched by Adelante Development Center, a New Mexico nonprofit that supports seniors and those with disabilities in the state.

“It’s important to make sure that people have access to technology because, in today’s world, that’s how you get your groceries, that’s how you go to the doctor, and that you get better job placements that are better paying,” Jill Beets, vice president of marketing for Adelante, told KOB 4 this week. “You have to know technology beyond your phone.”

DiverseIT is currently in need of laptops. To learn where to donate and more about the program that also works closely with seniors to help them navigate the internet safely and effectively, visit goadelante.org/diverseit/computer-donations-and-re-use. The program also provides job skills training for interns as it teaches them how to refurbish and repair computer systems.
