An Albuquerque vintage shop is ready to meet the demand for last-minute Halloween costumes.
Off Broadway rents vintage clothes, special effects and makeup year-round, but does its best business during Halloween.
“A lot of people don’t want to keep their costumes and our rentals are also like one-of-a-kind,” Kenneth Ansloan, a manager at Off Broadway, told KOB. “They are either going to be custom-made or a true vintage piece.”
Customers have different tastes, but some costumes are more popular than others depending on the personalities and events of a given year. The classic costumes also do well.
“Of course, [the] ’20s is always a popular one and we have a very extensive 1920s [collection],” Ansloan said. “Pirates are always popular year in and year out.”
Ansloan said recent movies like “Elvis” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” have spurned sales of Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe and fighter pilot costumes.
“A lot of Marilyn is because of the movie,” Ansloan said. “'Top Gun' I’m sure is always popular and I’m sure it’ll be extra popular.”
Prices on rentals vary depending on the costume. If customers don’t want to rent a costume, they can also buy it. To learn more, visit Off Broadway’s website.
