The La Familia Growers Market continues to be a popular destination in the South Valley.

“Just being able to support the community and farmers, there are always great things to taste and fresh produce and stuff, so it’s fun, and he has a nice place to run around in the park so it’s good times,” Carlos Aragon recently told KOB 4 about bringing his son out to the market.

There are plenty of offerings from area farmers and various vendors, including favorites ranging from handmade jewelry to beef jerky to red chile.

Tracy Aragon and her family love attending the market.

“This year was awesome, it started out with the monsoon – we got rained out in the first one which was exciting,” she said. “Since then, they’ve had a lot more going on, which is really fun.”

Longtime resident and vendor Robert Lujan vowed to keep coming back to sell his chile.

“We’ve been selling for four years going on five,” he said. “The jalapenos, they call them pickled jalapenos and the red chile from Hatch, and we’ve been doing real good. As long as we keep doing good, we’re going to keep selling every year.”

The La Familia Growers Market is a community-based farmers market located at the Dolores Huerta Gateway Park, its website said. Its “vision is to highlight the culture, traditions, and history of the South Valley. We aspire to provide a mercado-like experience from locally grown fruits and vegetables, baked goods, food trucks, music, a children’s playground, open space, arts-n-crafts, and other products with the goal of creating a space for community building and gathering in the South Valley while supporting the local bricks and mortar small businesses in the area.”
