Albuquerque, New Mexico, held its fifth annual "Cruzin Into the School Year" event at the Civic Plaza Sunday.
The event is offered each year to help parents and children get materials and support their children need for the upcoming school year, according to KRQE News.
Children were offered a variety of resources including haircuts, backpacks, school supplies, sports physicals, and clothing vouchers, KRQE reported. Dozens of classic cars were also on display at the event.
Organizers said they hope the event relieved some of the financial costs of preparing children to go back to school, something that has been more complicated due to inflation.
“Just trying to make sure we’re helping the parents get just a little bit of, you know, leeway in regards to expenses for this year," Ziarra Kirksey, an Albuquerque resident, told KRQE.
The event ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Aug. 7. More than 3,000 children attended the event which was more than double the total from 2021, according to KRQE.
Backpacks distributed during the event were donated by Albuquerque-based health insurance company Western Sky Community Care, KRQE reported.
