Albuquerque ice cream store owner got a sweet surprise from a customer: 'It restored my faith in humanity'

Bill Warren makes his living treating his customers to sweetness, but it’s seldom that the owner of “I Scream Ice Cream” in northeast Albuquerque is the recipient of a treat himself.

However, that occurred recently when an honorable customer returned some money after noticing that Warren gave him too much change for a purchase.

“It was a few days ago, and we’re real, real busy, and a gentleman came in and bought a bunch of ice cream,” Warren told KOB4. “He gave me two $20 bills.”

Warren gave the man what he thought was the correct change, and the man apparently left without checking it. A few days later, Warren got a call from a man, saying, “You know, you made a mistake when you gave me some change. I was in your shop a few days ago."

Warren told KOB4 that he thought the man was calling to scold him. But the man said, “No, it’s not like that. You gave me $20 instead of a five. You gave me too much money."

Last week, Warren arrived for work and found an envelope attached to the front of his door. It contained three $5 bills.

“Good day for all!” Warren told KOB4. “I got 15 bucks -- better than winning the lottery. It restored my faith in humanity. People in New Mexico are outstanding. I want to thank the gentleman that did that. It just made me feel good all day.”
