Air-conditioning problems at a Gallup hospital are creating dangerous conditions for patients and employees due to ongoing financial troubles.

The Rehoboth McKinley Christian Hospital has been combating air-conditioning troubles in its facility due to a recent bout of financial issues, with patients and employees claiming that the hospital’s heating and cooling system is broken, according to KOB4 News.

“The lobby thermostat was clocking at 93 degrees,” patient Jaylyn Hinkley told KOB4 News. “I was sitting in there with a fever, with other people that were experiencing illness, and we were sitting in a room that has no ventilation, that has no open windows.”

Other patient and employee accounts claim that the temperature inside the hospital feels like the inside of a sauna, according to KOB4 News. RMCH has since responded by citing issues with the hospital's HVAC system are the cause of the extreme temperatures, with technicians recently on the scene to fix the issue.

Despite the high temperatures, the hospital insists that it is still able to give its patients adequate care.

“Even with the fans on and the bay door open, which is the only door to the outside from the ER, my room that they put me in was 87 degrees," Hinkley told KOB4 News.

While the high temperatures have become an increasing problem as the summer begins, the issues with the HVAC system have existed for months. Since its discovery, the hospital tried to fix the issue before the weather got warmer, but the RMCH board claims that it has been difficult to order parts due to pandemic-related supply chain issues, which are being felt across the country.
