Football players from the University of New Mexico recently helped a nonprofit move to a new location.
Locker 505 is a nonprofit clothing bank that gives donated clothes to students who need them, a KOB 4 news report said this week. They have served approximately 12,000 young people since being established in 2014, and they were expanding to a brand-new location when the UNM football team decided to help them move.
“Anything we can do to help our community, I mean Locker 505 is a great cause," UNM football coach Danny Gonzales told KOB 4. "And it’s- we’re a part of the community. I mean, the majority of these guys that we bring in from other places, they become community members forever."
Team members were excited at the chance to help their community.
“We all wanted to be here to show up to help out, but it’s crazy to have the whole team here,” Luke Wysong, a UNM football player, told KOB 4.
Almost 100 football players came together to assist the nonprofit in its move to the new site, the report said. Locker 505 helped 2,000 students during the past school year, despite the COVID-19 pandemic. At the new site, they will be able to help even more students.
In the past, Locker 505 was just located in Bernalillo County, but they will now be opening their new location to help give clothes to students in Valencia, Sandoval and Torrance counties as well.
