An Albuquerque community is furious over the illegal killing of two of their beloved neighborhood deer.

An unknown person or persons shot the deer with arrows, a recent KRQE news report said. One deer was killed outright and the other was left to die with an arrow in its side.

“One went and jumped over a fence to a property that they are comfortable in,” local resident Nona Gossage told KRQE. “And that one had an arrow in its side. One staggered and fell on a property and it took about at least two hours to die.”

Residents of the neighborhood are angry that someone would shoot the deer in a residential neighborhood in broad daylight. Many of the residents enjoy seeing the deer in their neighborhood and don't mind having them around because the deer have been comfortable in their neighborhood.

“I am, I am outraged,” Gossage said. “I am totally outraged.”

Killing a deer and leaving the carcass behind is a 4th degree felony in New Mexico and carries a $5,000 fine.

“When people poach animals such as deer or any of the other species, it really takes away from…from one, from people who are trying to do it legally,” Tristianna Bickford, New Mexico Game and Fish spokesperson, told KRQE. “But also people who really enjoy seeing wildlife.”
