A Rio Rancho brewery is raising funds to benefit a 6-year-old girl battling brain cancer.
Brew Labs Brewery is raising money for young Skylar, who is fighting a type of brain cancer called high-grade gliomas, according to KRQE. Skylar and her family have expressed gratitude for the show of support from the brewery and the local community.
“She was super excited,” Victoria Quintana, a friend of Skylar's family and the owners of the brewery, said to KRQE. “She didn’t want to go home; she wanted to stay with everybody. The family is doing all they can to help Skylar. Friends wanted to do their part because Skylar’s parents are like family to them.”
The brewery held a fundraising event and donated a dollar for every beer or growler sold, raising nearly $360, KRQE reported.
For those who wish to make a donation, Skylar's family has set up a GoFundMe page.
“Want to say a huge thank you to Vicky for setting this up for us and a huge thank you for everyone that has donated, shared, or just plain reached out,” C.J. Sears, Skylar's father, said in a post on the GoFundMe page. “Myself, as well as Skylar's mother Rachel, are very taken back by all the love and support that everyone has sent us during this time. Our daughter is our light and all of us have been completely blindsided by the information of this brain tumor. Whether you share, donate, or just send Skylar good vibes, you have every bit of our gratitude. We have a long road ahead as a family, but this girl is one tough cookie."
