Have you ever wanted to try your hand at pottery? A special opportunity is available to learn this unique expression of art.

A two-hour Pottery Experience Class is occurring daily from noon to 2 p.m. at Paseo Pottery in Santa Fe.

The cost is $100 and the class is available for individuals, families, and groups of any size.  It is also a fun tool for corporate team building.

All classes are one-time, two-hour classes that highlight "the experience of touching, forming, and manipulating clay into expressions of art," according to the calendar of events on the city of Santa Fe's website. The classes are “experience-based, meaning that at the end of each session students recycle their work back into the clay mound," the website said.

It was noted that no experience is necessary; classes are appropriate for newcomers or advanced potters.

The creation of ceramic arts has a long tradition in New Mexico, dating back to the Native Americans, who used pottery for their daily existence. "Chards of ancient ceramics are scattered on bluffs and foothills throughout New Mexico and are a constant reminder of the transitory nature of our particular form of art and of our very human existence," according to the website. "For millennia, ceramic artists across New Mexico have transformed clay into vessels to be held between hands, to be filled with nourishment, to be brought to lips, and after serving their purpose, to be returned to the earth."

The pottery classes are taught by volunteer, professional ceramic artists. The fee includes a two-hour experiential class and drinks, clay, materials, and tools.

After the class, students will receive a 10% discount to use in the gallery, which contains pottery handmade by Santa Fe artists.

Paseo Pottery is located at 1273 Calle de Comercio in Santa Fe.
