Obituary

George Theoharis (1947-2022) was a unique and one-of-a-kind man who was very loved by his family. On Saturday, February 12, 2022, in his 74th year, the Lord called him in a peaceful manner after a brief hospitalization with his wife, daughter, and son-in-law by his side, who were also joined by his other daughter via video call.

He was the voice of calm and the peacemaker for his family, and he leaves a void that cannot be filled. He will be greatly missed by his wife and soulmate of almost 37 years, Melody (McLaughlin), his twin daughters, Roxy (Nathan Turner) and Yancy (Aaron Romero), and by his dear sister, Fay (Al Pisano), and nephews, Jimmy and Robert. Along with being a dependable and providing husband and father, he enjoyed being a grandfather to Georgie, Piper, and Quinn (Turner). He was preceded in death by his parents, George E. and Katherine (Dassos) Theoharis.

George was fiercely proud of his family's Greek heritage. He was born and raised in New York City, spent summers with his grandparents in Springfield, Massachusetts, and loved playing sports in the Greek community while growing up. He honorably served in the Army during Vietnam and remained in contact with many of his fellow Veterans. In the early 70s he relocated to Albuquerque and began a career with the telephone company and served as president of the local union (CWA).

Our hearts are heavy as we celebrate his life and find comfort that he is in Heaven watching over us. All are welcome to attend his Visitation/Trisagion service on March 23, 2022 at 4:30pm at the FRENCH-Wyoming Chapel. Church Service will be on March 24, 2022, at 10:00am, at St. George Orthodox Church and burial at Santa Fe National Cemetery on March 25, 2022 at 1:30pm.
