Filmmakers are still moving to New Mexico in large numbers, despite the state's film industry reeling from the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a report by KRQE.
Last month, MovieMaker Magazine rated Albuquerque as the best city in which to live while working in the film industry for the fourth consecutive year. The magazine highlighted New Mexico's diverse landscapes, which include mountains, deserts and other natural features that could serve as backdrops for various scenes.
“Everyone just thinks, ‘Oh, it’s the desert.’ Well, there’s so much more in the state,” producer Michael D. Jones stated. “As I’ve driven around, I’m like, ‘Oh, there is greenery, there is water, there are cabins,’ so there is a lot more. You just have to get here and see it and expand.”
Additionally, MovieMaker noted that the film industry's presence in Albuquerque also contributes to the city's attraction, as everything is nearby and easily accessible.
“It’s great to be here on the ground floor and see what’s happening,” Jones added. “If you come here and see what the state has to offer, I think you’ll be very happy and rewarded.”
Santa Fe was also included in the list published by MovieMaker Magazine, where it ranked third in the category of small cities and towns.
